
Residency. Is. Tough. But it also flies by! Thanks for the 80 hour work weeks. As a recent graduate (2020) and prior Chief Resident (2019 – 2020), these are some tips/tricks to making residency a little more tolerable.

- Check out this website early on in residency. Realize there are ‘points’ you need to complete in order to be able to register for your board exam!
- Registration for the board exam usually takes place in Fall the year before your graduate (e.g. November 2019 for April 2020 exam)
- You need to complete the Knowledge Self Assessment, Practice Improvement Activity, and 50 points in the Self-Assessment or Performance Improvement Activities.
- This is also where your prior ITE exams go for when it is time for board studying!
- Better to get started with this stuff early so you don’t have to stress while on a time intensive rotation!

- Read this. Do the CME questions and log the questions on the website.
- Great review articles which make for good teaching topics for medical students and fellow residents as well
- Sign up for their Podcast to listen to main points from the journal as well!

- Great use of your residency book fund as it covers the main points that are tested in the ABFM Board Exam
- Also has CME quizzes online (20 questions/each)

- Great use of CME funds for residency! Has a lot of hands on sessions and additional sessions on topics not covered in residency (e.g. botox)

- Annual Update
- Occurs in February/March of every year. Generally it is held in Honolulu. The focus of the conference is primary on CME for community Family Medicine physicians but it serves as a good networking event for residents
- Residents can submit oral case presentations and research presentations for financial prizes!
