I have always been passionate about being outdoors, whether at/on/in the ocean (makai) or in the mountains (mauka). Although I have been on a lot of hikes around Hawai’i, I only do write ups on those that are VERY public (e.g. at the National Park or part of the Na Ala Hele Trail System).

Below is a listing of excellent hiking groups and reference books for Hawai’i:
- Ball, Stuart. The Hikers Guide to the Hawaiian Islands: Updated and Expanded.
- There are multiple versions of the book. I would highly recommend looking at the most up to date version as trail access changes frequently.
- State of Hawai’i, Department of Land and Natural Resources. Na Ala Hele Trail System.
- Listing of more maintained trails throughout the State.
- Also offers up to date updates about status of trails.
- State of Hawai’i, Department of Land and Natural Resources. Hawai’i Camping Reservations.
- Website to purchase permits for campsites/cabins across the State.
- Also offers up to date updates about trail/campsite status.
- Sierra Club Hawai’i

- Paid membership.
- Hawai’i Trail and Mountain Club
